I have been waiting more than a decade to read Shalom Barbie, and it was absolutely worth the wait. I devoured this book in just a few days and thoroughly enjoyed every page.
What stood out to me most was Barbie's authentic voice. She writes with honesty, warmth, humor, and vulnerability, making it feel less like reading a memoir and more like sitting down with a friend who is sharing her life's journey. Her story is deeply personal, yet so many of the questions she wrestles with are universal: Who am I? Why am I here? Where can I find truth?
One of my favorite aspects of the book was the family dynamics. Each member of Barbie's family felt distinct, real, and memorable. As I followed her journey, I found myself experiencing a whole range of emotions alongside them. Watching the different ways her family members reacted to her questions, choices, adventures, and search for truth added tremendous depth to the story.
Her spiritual journey is both courageous and relatable, reminding readers that searching for truth often requires faith, persistence, and a willingness to be courageous.
The Hawaiian adventure was fascinating, but what truly captivated me was watching her transformation unfold. This is a story about faith, self-discovery, family, and the power of following the quiet promptings of the heart. Oh, and miracles! Miracles everywhere!
In the book there was a few formatting and editing things BUT I think that is getting to be more common and some authors are intentionally doing stuff like that so people know the book wasn't AI written. Smart thinking!
