The Ghost of Josiah Grimshaw Book Trailer
Author Interview: Suzy Turner
Deirdra: What is your writing and educational background?
I studied English Literature at A'level but I never went to university, although I had intended to. Because I met my husband at 16, I couldn't bare the thought of leaving him. That, and because I was living in Portugal, it wasn't an easy option for me at that time. Instead I went on to work in the publishing industry where I started off as a trainee journalist and worked my way up to Assistant Editor, Features Editor to eventually, Magazine Editor.
Deirdra: What makes you passionate about writing?
Being so passionate about reading makes me passionate about writing, I guess. I write the kinds of books that I love to read! YA urban fantasy, in particular.
Deirdra: What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing?
The ultimate dream that has been realised is to literally have thousands of copies of my books out there in the world. That is just amazing, and knowing that people have loved my first book enough to buy the second and third in the series. It means so much to me.
Deirdra: Can you tell us a little about your book, The Ghost of Josiah Grimshaw?
The Ghost Of Josiah Grimshaw is a Morgan Sisters novel, a YA Urban fantasy based in London. It tells the tale of two adopted sisters who, after they are mysteriously branded with what looks like a tattoo, visit London and discover that they are destined to be part of an ancient foundation that fights evil:
The Ghost of Josiah Grimshaw
Adopted sisters Lana Beth and Emma Jane are polar opposites, but when the same strange 'tattoo' suddenly appears and winds its way up their bodies within days of each other, they soon realise there's more to their relationship than they could ever have imagined.
Sent off to London for two weeks of 'work experience', the Morgan Sisters soon find themselves being initiated into the ancient Praxos Foundation, one that protects the innocent while fighting evil, both human and supernatural.
At the same time, Lana Beth and Emma Jane must also investigate why the sweet but sometimes pesky ghost of Josiah Grimshaw just won't leave them alone.
Deirdra: What is your process of brainstorming a story? Do you just sit down and write, waiting to see what happens next? Or do you outline first?
I start with a vague idea in my head... I make a few notes about the characters, etc, and then I just sit down and fly by the seat of my pants! I love the way the story unfolds this way. I can't write with a definite outline. I have tried but the story always seems to take on a life of its own. I love that about my writing.
Deirdra: What kinds of inspiration do you use during your story creation periods?
Music is a great source of inspiration, as are images. I LOVE Pinterest for generating ideas. I've actually created a couple of boards for my books and whenever I get stuck, I skim through them and it always helps. This is for the Morgan Sisters: http://pinterest.com/
Deirdra: What are your goals as an author for the next three years?
To hit the jackpot of course! To write a novel that people adore so much that I sell millions! On a more serious note though, I'm planning to write a lot more Morgan Sisters novels. I've also had lots of readers desperately asking for more books in The Raven Saga, so I'm considering that too.
Deirdra: What is the best complement you could receive from a reader?
Just to hear that a reader enjoyed my book is music to my ears. To be told that they couldn't put it down is awesome.
Deirdra: Where can readers go to find your books and order them?
All my books are available as ebooks from Amazon, ibooks, Kobo, etc, all the usual online retailers. I'm working to get them all available as paperbacks too.
Deirdra: Any final words you would like to share?
Just a huge thank you for hosting me on your site! I've had such a blast answering your questions! Thank you so much :)
